Co-Hort Speaks

Shirlene,
How can I say Thank-You for all you have done. Oh My God, I don't know where to begin. First of all Thank-you for accepting me into your program, secondly, I asked you for a blazer to wear on a interview, because my dressy clothes were still back in Chicago. Not only did you make sure I had a blazer, I was also given a pair of slacks to go with them. I was so over filled with joy that I broke down and cried today in the dressing room.
I have never been in a situation like this before in my life. With in the little time I have been in your program, I feel like I'm coming back this way even with out a job. Something keep telling me I'm in good hands, and everything will be alright. I do feel that it will be very soon. Thank you for being there for me when I didn't have, it means a lot to me. My hat is off to you and Tammie, for helping to turn my life around.
Once again Thanks, and may God continue to Bless you and the team....
Signed
Someone being healed...

Thxs, Michelle

Good Afternoon Shirlene,

I appreciate your prompt response. Also, thanks for the refreshments. They were really good. The class was much more engaging than I thought it would be. I was pleasantly surprised to see Judge Hatchett. I'm actually on a pic with her from the 2008 Dem. National Convention. I won a radio contest from Rev. Al Sharpton. I had to write an essay as to what Pres. Obamas winning the election would mean to me. Now then, back to the question at hand. Due to my injury at work, my job had no positions available and I'm now unemployed. The unemployment benefits do not keep up with the bills.
I was able to pay for two weeks at an extended stay. This weekend I will be going to the shelter. This concerns me because I'm not sure where I will end up. It's not like you can make a reservation. (lol). I was also told that I'm eligible for the WIA program. This is AWESOME! With DRESS FOR SUCCESS AND WIA - I finally have the help I need to get back to work and get a decent job where I don't have to kill myself. My last job I was lifting 60lbs. daily. Doing this daily for 8rs. caught up with me. It's a shame to be offered free services and be so poor you may not be able to utilize them. The struggle is real. But having said that, I posed the question, you never know what services are available until you ask. Closed mouths don't get fed. I'll work it out. I appreciate your time and effort and thanks for choosing me for DRESS FOR SUCCESS.

Thankyou,

April Tillman

I have really enjoyed and learned soooo much. This group of strong women have been encouraging and have inspired me to challenge myself. I was feeling discouraged and what I realized is that I have all the support I need I just have to keep trying until my time has come to work again. Robyn Cash by far gave me powerful tools to work with especially in finance.

I just wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU!  I finally feel like I have a competitive resume that represents me well in the market place. I am so thankful that I am involved with Dress For Success.  Your program has really boosted my confidence.

I also wanted to let you know that I applied for two jobs listed on the blog:

McDonnell Group - Marketing/Public Relations Coordinator
Atlanta City Council - Council Aid

I also plan on faxing my resume for the Front Office Supervisor
position at The Hilton Garden Inn.

 Best Regards,

Deloris Keith

In this program I learned how to better understand the differences between skills and tasks and how my skills can be an asset to each task that I am given. I also learned about planning for my finances and how to make a budget for myself that I can stick to. This program is very good and I can see the benefits of being apart of a program such as this. I hope that the program will be able to continue for those who need it and that it will gain more support as time goes on. If I should come across any other women who are in need of assistance will refer them to look with your organization.
Thank you for your help, especially given the short notice.
Sincerely,
Kristin Fennell

"I would like to first say what a privilege and an honor it has been to be part of the program. Thank you for bringing in experts like Tonya Davenport from Step Up Reach Out, Janet Thornton of the PWG, Ann Carter from TANF, Tonya Brown spoke on Financial Management and power house Caron Cone - Director over Human Resources for Turner Broadcasting, just to name a few. The experience and resources that have been made available are priceless."

In only my 3rd week Dress For Success has transformed my outlook as I prepare to re-enter the workforce after being laid off in 2011. After applying to several jobs and not getting as much as an interview I was really beginning to beat up my usual "rah-rah" attitude. Attending the Going Places Network by Wal-Mart Program has equipped me with resume' and cover letter writing abilities, an awareness of social media and networking, and it has also surrounded me with other women  trying to re-invent themselves after unexpected job loss. I have found new confidence.  Now I don’t wonder what’s wrong with me? Why can’t I even get an interview? After starting this program I feel more like, I have the tools to apply for a job, the resources to look for a job, and the determination to get a job. Now it’s just a matter of time before something opens up.

 Thanks For The Second Wind,

Cheryl G.  (No One Stands As Tall As A Christian On There Knees)

Dear Shirlene,

Thank you very much for caring enough to motivate our group today.  Your staff was very kind to us.  You don't know the full impact you had on our lives.  I am so grateful that you used your professional influence, insight, and skill to lift us up.  The class had very high positive energy, and will certainly have successful employment stories.  Many of us needed to be inspired.  Please continue your good work.  It is not in vain.
                                                          Best,  Yolanda

PS.  I have attached my resume and cover letter.  Thank you and the staff that made the program a reality.

I just got my two business suits.  They are soooo nice.  Amy picked out my outfits.  She picked out some beautiful things and accessories.  I appreciate everything from the bottom of my heart.

Dear Ms. Anderson:

My participation in the Going Places Network, sponsored by Walmart is becoming a life changing experience for me.  Monday's workshops and speakers were informative and inspiring and I anxiously look forward to next Monday.  During our session on identifying our transferable skills, I explained that I would like to transfer some of my extensive legal, allied health and community outreach skills to assist or lead a non-profit agency in some professional capacity.  I have a passion for helping disadvantaged people, especially women and children overcome injustice or disparity in educational, economic, health or criminal justice systems. You informed me that you were aware of a non-profit agency that might benefit from my expertise. Please let me know how I might obtain further information about this opportunity.  Also, I will attempt to attach my resume (which is a work in progress).  I am thanking you in advance for your time and consideration.  Sincerely, Angela

  1. Loving this program; it has been so helpful with my job search. The speakers have been so uplifting and informative. I'd highly recommend this program to women who have work experience but finding it difficult to land a job this economy. This program offers a support group of positive women who are giving back to their community by, providing tip on how to prepare for and get the job you want, how to improve your resume, how to conduct yourself in an interview, what to do after an interview, the importance of networking and most important, taking care of yourself mentally and financially. These are things that we are familiar with, but often forget when you’re struggling and having a tough time landing a job. I so appreciate Wal-Mart sponsoring this program and the meals provided by Chick-fil-a, Starbucks, Little Azio, The Fresh Market, Cheesecake Factory, and Uncle Julio’s. Thank you!
