Be A Mentor



DRESS FOR SUCCESS ATLANTA is seeking 8-9 women to serve as peer mentors for participants in the 2012 Going Places Network by Wal-Mart program.

WE ARE SEEKING LOCAL WOMEN WHO: 
  •  Have come through DFSA programs (suitings, coaching and/or PWG or a past GPN)
  • And are now employed
  • Have an hour or more a week to give to mentor 1 or 2 GPN participants in person or by phone, for a period of 8-9 weeks.
WHAT:                      
  • You will attend one 1-2 hour training session.
  • Meet the participants at one GPN meeting
  • Select the 1-2 participants you can mentor around their job search and create a plan/schedule together for your mentoring. 
  • After that initial meeting, you can do the mentoring by phone or in person, once a week; however it will work best for you and your mentee (s). 
  •  WHY:  You have experienced what these women are going through as they struggle to remain motivated and take care of themselves and their families, during a challenging job search.  Now you can give back and  share what you’ve learned.                      
  •   You have so much to offer!

PURPOSE:        
 Dress for Success and Going Places Network by Wal-Mart have determined that participants have a better chance of achieving their goals and maintaining balance in their lives during the job search if they have a mentor to
  • Check-in with them on their progress and challenges 
  •  Provide encouragement and celebrate successes along the way
Offer guidance and assist with possible job leads and networking opportunities.  
 
WHEN: During a full cycle/Cohort of GPN which is generally either 8 or 9 weeks long.  Continuing the mentoring relationship after the Cohort ends is up to you and your mentees but is not required.  In 2014 we will have three separate GPN Cohorts, each with a new group of between 15-25 participants.  You can choose to be a peer mentor for just one or more Cohorts (it’s up to you).
